ABSTRACT
Construction of the new Australian Research Reactor,
the replacement for the now 46 year old HIFAR research
reactor, is approximately 80% completed. Construction of
the reactor facility began in April 2002 at ANSTO’s
Lucas Heights site near Sydney and commissioning is
still on track for late 2005. Some details of the
progress of construction and licensing and an outline of
ANSTO research related to the use of Zircaloy-4 in the
core region and reflector vessel of the reactor are
given.
