New results of the  reaction layer characterization between g (U-7wt%Mo) alloy and Al, in chemical diffusion couples, are presented. The analysis was performed using optical and scanning electron microscopy with EDAX and X-ray diffraction techniques. Besides the main components (U, Mo)Al3 and (U, Mo)Al4 , already reported,  two ternary compounds of high Al content have been identified in the reaction layer when it grew in retained or decomposed g (U, Mo) phase, respectively. The drastic consequence on the interdiffusion behavior due to the thermal instability of the retained g (U, Mo) phase is discussed.
