ABSTRACT
A rapid solidification method, namely, centrifugal atomization process,
is applied in production of U-Mo alloy powder of the isotropic cubic gamma-U
phase which is considered to be a candidate for higher U-loading research
reactor fuel. Atomized U-Mo powder has spherical shape, small diameter with
83 micrometer in median size, narrow size distributions, high density
and fine grain structure with isotropic gamma-U phase. In addition, U-Mo
fuel rods, especially U-10wt.%Mo, show good thermal compatibility with Al
matrix and maintain a microstructure stability.
