ABSTRACT
In this report the project for the production and irradiation of two
LEU fuel elements containing 4.8 g.cm-3U is presented. The test
irradiation will be performed at the High Flux Reactor (Petten, the Netherlands)
and concerns the qualification of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority
(Dounreay, UK) as a reliable manufacturer of Material Test Reactor silicide
fuel elements.
Apart from a technical description, safety related aspects, quality control and pre-irradiation characterisation, also the irradiation policy and a summary of the subsequent post-irradiation examination programme are provided.
