CONVERSION OF THE IAN-R1 REACTOR FROM MTR FUEL
TO TRIGA LEU FUEL

ABSTRACT

Paper "The first critical experiment with a new type of fuel assemblies IRT-3M on training reactor VR-1" presents basic information about the replacement of fuel on the reactor VR-1 run on FJFI CVUT in Prague. In spring 1997 the IRT-2M fuel type used till then was replaced by the IRT-3M type. When the fuel was replaced, no change in its enrichment was made, i.e. its level remained as 36% ²³⁵U.

The replacement itself was carried out in tight co-operation with the Nuclear Research Institute Rez plc., as related to the operation of the research reactor LVR-15.

The fuel replacement on the VR-I reactor is a part of the international program RERTR (Reduced Enrichment for Research and Test Reactors) in which the Czech Republic participates.
