ABSTRACT

The paper presents a short history and main accomplishments of TRIGA-14MW HEU-LEU core conversion. In early 1992 four LEU fuel clusters were accepted as experimental LEU fuel for irradiation testing in the core and the next step followed in 1996 by adding three more fuel clusters. A new step is foreseen in the present time by introduction of other four fuel clusters, in this way the percentage of HEU fuel substitution becoming about 33%.

Periodic nondestructive measurements were made on LEU fuel rods. A summary of the results obtained by gamma scanning and dimensional measurements and a comparison with similar measurements on HEU fuel rods is also presented.
